Performance Etiquette and Hints

No matter how big or small a part performing is in your student's dance experience, there are several things as parents you can do to help them get the most out of their performance. Below is a list of performance guidelines and requirements for Kinetic Energy dancers.

Etiquette, Guidelines and Hints

Although we do strive to create the best dancer in your child we can, we realize that each student has a different level of personal perfection. As long as your student has fun and tries their best during the performance, we feel we have succeeded as dance educators! Some students perform to have fun, others perform to build a career for their future. We will never require your student to be "perfect".

Refrain from taking pictures and video during the actual performance. Flash photography and flashing lights are a distraction to the performers on stage and is also disrespectful to their art. Sit back and enjoy the show!

Please stay and enjoy the entire performance. Please give the same respect to the remaining performers.

If you must exit the hall for a brief period, please leave between performances and enter again between performances.

Clapping and cheering for the performers is highly recommended...but please make sure it is at an appropriate time. Clapping during a beautiful ballet is inappropriate but clapping in recognition of a well performed skill is great!

Kinetic Energy Specifics

All students should arrive at both rehearsal and the performance 30 minutes in advance. This allows staff to get the students settled in the appropriate dressing room before beginning.

Students should always arrive to both rehearsal and the performance COMPLETELY ready, as if they were going directly to the stage. If your student is not ready, please take them to the restroom and complete their dress and make-up requirements before leaving them with Kinetic Energy staff.

Students are required to wear the appropriate color of tights that were distributed to them with their costume. All tights should be from Revolution Dancewear. Other tights bought locally may be of different color or matte; which is very obvious on stage.

Make-Up should be applied in excess for stage performance. The bright stage lights fade out the face if make-up is not worn. Warm colors should be used, such as blues and purples. A good guide is as follows: blue or purple eyes...pink cheeks...red lips.

Hair should be worn in a bun, unless otherwise specified by the instructor. If your student is in multiple dances, a bun is the easiest style to suite all dances. Any item used in the hair, such as rubberbands and bobbypins, should match the students hair color. NO bangs. Bangs cast a shadow on the performers face so please pin or jel them back.

Once students are completely ready, they need to check in at the designated "check-in" station. Students under seven years of age must be checked in by a parent or guardian. All other students can check themselves in.

Students are not allowed to leave the backstage area prior to the conclusion of the performance, unless advanced notice is given by a parents and they are checked out in the appropriate fashion.

All students must check-out at the conclusion of the performance. They are not released without being checked out for their safety. Please respect this request at all times.

No parents are allowed backstage at any time. This is for your students safety. Please respect this request at all times.

Send your student with something to keep them occupied while waiting to perform. Appropriate items are books and drawing paper. DO NOT send them with expensive items or items that would be missed if lost. Kinetic Energy is not responsible for broken or lost items during performances.

Label EVERYTHING your student brings with them to performances. This includes their costume, their tights, their shoes, their bag, everything. This makes finding the owner of a lost item much easier for staff.

Lost tickets will not be honored. You must have a ticket in hand to enter a Kinetic Energy performance.
